Euthanasi A Controversial Issue Around The World - 1461 Words

Since euthanasia first appeared in the nineteenth century, it has become a controversial issue around the world. Euthanasia, the â€Å"mercy killing†, relieve those who are suffering from disease or when they are on terminal stage by ending the life of a person intentionally (â€Å"Euthanasia†). In some countries such as the Netherlands and Belgium have legalized euthanasia under certain circumstances. However, active euthanasia is not yet legal in China and it seems to be against traditional Chinese concepts of morality. Nonetheless, with social progress and development in China, people not only focus on high living standard but also the want of leaving in peace. Samantha Pang has written that, in China, the awareness of both birth and death have been arise, † [w]hile the government promotes superior quality of birth and quality of life, voices in support of quality of dying are also emerging† (80). In some circumstances, the death can be positive. For ins tance, if someone were suffering from a terminal illness, assisted death could be the best action. Therefore, active euthanasia should be legal in China because people should have the right to decide their death, and euthanasia can relieve suffering for both patients and their families as well as reduce family burden and it can be beneficial for the social economy.
